Breeding is an important part of the game which allows you to obtain new and (if you’re lucky!) better horses. To start breeding, players must first unlock the Breeding House through the tutorial (Player Level 5).

How To Breed Horses

The Basics: Breeding requires two adult horses of opposite genders in the same horse division (see restrictions below).

Breeding costs Coin, the amount depends on the horses being bred. If you have enough adult horses, the game will provide 3 breeding suggestions, but you can pick your own breeding pair. As long as your horse is on the same ranch as the BREEDING HOUSE you are using, it only costs Coin to use your horses or a friend's horse. Or you can pay 20 Diamond fee to use your horse from a different ranch (this does not move your horse).

Tip: You might want to put the horses you are going to breed in the Grand Stable before the breeding, so that your single stables don't get tied up for the duration of the breeding.

With the Feb 2020 Game Update: Before paying the breeding fee, you can now see the "adult" version of the Pink Option foal and chance of getting it (percentage in top left)! See Pure-breeding or Cross-breeding sections below for more info.

Breeding Result Wheel

Each breeding has 3 possible foal results. To increase your chances of getting a specific foal, you can use diamonds. You can also spend diamonds or Event Tokens during certain special events to retry and spin again.

Each colored section represents a potential foal option. See charts below:

Is the Pink result always better or preferred?
No. The Pink option is not always a higher tier or rarity, especially when cross-breeding.
Breeding Combination Pink Result Breeding Examples
Pure-breeding a foal of higher tier
(Tier 4 is currently the highest tier)
If you breed two Tier 2 Rocky Mountains, the pink foal option is a Tier 3 Rocky Mountain.
Cross-breeding usually a different Tier 1 breed from the parents (unless it is a new breed) If you breed a Tier 3 Rocky Mountain with a Tier 3 Merens, the pink foal option a Tier 1 Quarter, a different breed, but of lower rarity & value than either parent.

Breeding Wait Timer

There is a breeding wait timer, during which the adult horses you use will be unavailable for other activities or tasks. This time could be a few minutes to over 48hrs depending on the parent breeds. You can reduce the wait time by asking friends for help and spending Diamonds. Once the foal is born, it must be placed into an empty Stable. If you don't have an empty stable, the foal will occupy the breeding house until you do. This will prevent you from another breeding, as currently, you may only have one active breeding on each ranch, with a total of five breeding locations that you may use to breed your horses.

Breeding with a Friend's horse

You can visit a friend's farm and breed with one of their horses. The breeding process is very similar as with your own horses:

  1. Start on your ranch with an empty Breeding House.
  2. Next, go to your friend's ranch, tap their stabled horse and then tap the blue Breed button on the horse profile window.

Note: Friend's horses that are in the Grand Stable or otherwise busy, cannot be bred with.

  3. The breeding window will open, tap the Change button to see a list of your own horses of the opposite gender of your friend's horse.
  4. Drag the one you want to use over to the breeding window, you'll see a preview of the "pink result" foal option.
  5. Tap breed to pay the breeding fee (and diamonds if your horse is on a different ranch from your breeding house) and spin the wheel to see what foal you will get!

Note: When you are using your friend's horses for breeding, your result chances will not match those shown in Horsepedia. Generally they are lower, with the results skewed towards the same breed & tier you own.

Pure-breeding

Breeding two horses of the same breed together to try for a higher Tier of that breed. The probability of getting a higher Tier changes with the combinations. For example: using a Tier 1 horse and a Tier 3 horse will usually give you 40-50% chance of getting a Tier 2 horse, whereas using two Tier 1 horses might result in a 20-25% chance of getting a Tier 2. Note: it is more expensive to use a Tier 3 horse and the breeding wait timer will be longer.

This chart shows the Tier possibilities when Pure-breeding various tier horses

Rarity

Main Article: Rarity

When you are pure-breeding horses from Tier 1 to Tier 3, the rarity of the horse will be improved at least once, or in case of Tier 4 horses, twice. The rarity depends on the horse's breed & tier (please see individual breed pages for more info).

The eye color of horses have no direct link with the rarity or the tier of the horses – it’s random (though some colors are more common to see). The fur color is set by breed & tier in the game.

Cross-breeding

Refers to breeding two different horse breeds together to unlock a third different breed. Cross-breeding is usually restricted to within a division (see Exceptions below).

If you are trying to unlock a third different horse-breed: it's often best to use Tier 2 (or higher) parent horses, as the pink foal result option will usually have a higher probability. Though it is more expensive (cost more coins) and has a longer wait time, you may not have to breed as many times to get the "new" horse-breed!
